Overview

Sometimes a project comes our way that breaks the mould or really requires our team to think outside of the box, and that’s exactly what this musical Animated Explainer Video for Odla required!
With no script or voiceover, Odla wanted this video to be carried purely by music and animation, while still delivering a clear message about what their offering is. The finished product is a clear, concise and incredibly fun video, with a few subtle cameos from some of history’s favorite composers!

Step 1

Sketching Phase

The first step for this video was to create concept sketches for each character, element and setting. This gives our team and the client a first ‘feel’ of the video, and also allows us to implement any initial client feedback that we can carry forward into the next stages.
Step 2

Style sample

Once we have our rough character and setting sketches agreed, we can begin to fill them out with greater detail and colour. This ‘style setting’ phase results in character and scene design that is much closer to the final version, and allows the client to give further feedback as needed. WIth this video in particular, because we were aiming to give the composers a subtle likeness of Beethoven and Mozart, the style setting phase was incredibly useful!
Step 3

Graphic storyboard

To ensure the video matched the musical score perfectly, we created a scene-by-scene storyboard, laying out the narrative of the video and showing the client how the story could unfold. After agreeing a final narrative with the client, we were then able to commit the characters and settings we designed for the final step.
Step 4

Animation

Finally we got to bring this vibrant and musical animation to life! Our buzzing team of animators began creating each scene and injecting fluid movement to match the beat of each scene. With realistic expressions and colourful atmospheres to suit each genre of music throughout the video, we were able to communicate a number of emotions and value points without a single word spoken during the video!
